You begin by telling your audience, “As magicians, people often ask us to tell them what word they’re thinking of. Most magicians would say that’s far too hard…I’d say that’s far too easy.

See, you probably have 6,000 - 8,000 words in your head to choose from. I want to give you the chance to pick from 60,000 - 80,000 words instead—making my job 10x harder.”

You hand a spectator a pocket dictionary and invite another spectator to choose ANY page number for them to turn to. Once they’re there, another spectator chooses a number from 1 - 10. The first spectator, on a randomly chosen page, counts down to the word in that position and remembers it.

You make a prediction on your phone in under 5 seconds, without ever opening an app other than your real notes app, and even showing some of the other spectators your process.

They name their word, and it matches exactly what you predicted.
