There’s a secret technique mentalists have used for decades that allows them to guess a thought-of word without it ever being written down or spoken aloud. This technique has nearly zero ‘process’ and is one of the closest things to real mind-reading most people will ever experience.
However…it’s not easy.

Pathfinder is an invisible Apple shortcut that works in the background on your phone.
Before you start your performance, you simply tap on the shortcut, and it does everything for you.

Here's everything you can do with Pathfinder…
The ‘Acrostic’ Test
The spectator mentally chooses ANY word from ANY page. You write down a few possible predictions, and ask the spectator if any of them match their selection. Sadly, they don’t…
…until suddenly, the spectator realises that the first letter of each of your words spells out the word they’re thinking of!
(Variation: After you’ve written your predictions, you could also ask the spectator to name a number from 1 - 5. Let’s say they choose 4. When you reveal the words, you ask the spectator to look at the 4th letter of each of your words—and they find it spells out their selection!)
The Handwriting Test
The spectator mentally chooses ANY word from ANY page. Next, you have them draw the letters of the alphabet in your notes app. You analyze their handwriting, correctly guess a few of the letters in their word, and then write down a prediction.
You show them the prediction and it’s exactly the word they’re thinking of. As ever, the spectator never even needs to say their word out loud!
The Word Association Test
The spectator mentally chooses ANY word from ANY page. Next, you have them write down a few unrelated words—whatever comes into their mind. You then play your own game of word association based on the spectator’s choices, writing down a handful of words. “Hopefully,” you say, “one of my words will be the word you’re thinking of.”
When you show the spectator your words, they regretfully inform you that you did not guess their word…until it slowly dawns on them that the first letter of each word spells out their thought!
(Alternatively, you could simply analyse the words chosen by the spectator and use them to directly reveal the thought-of word!)
The Thought Test
Rather than finding a word on a page, in this effect the spectator simply thinks of the word in their mind! For example, you ask the spectator to think of any superhero, and you’re able to directly reveal what they’re thinking of.
Instead of superheroes, you might also ask the spectator to think of a car brand, a US state, a male/female name, or one of the many possibilities we provide.
The Menu Test
You’re performing at a restaurant, and ask your spectator to simply think of any item on the menu. You write a prediction on your phone and reveal that it’s exactly what they’re thinking of! Once again, the spectator never even touches the phone or says their word aloud.
If you have a regular gig performing at a restaurant, this is a killer application of Pathfinder.
BONUS Feature: The Image Test
AM originally built Pathfinder to do a very different job to what it does now. However, you can still use that original feature to perform some really fun effects.
For example, you can have multiple spectators look at different images in your photo gallery—and simultaneously reveal what each of them are thinking of.
It sounds crazy, but Pathfinder can even rig a game of Which Hand so that you always know which hand is holding the object—for multiple spectators at the same time!
But of course, no trick is perfect, so here are some key factors to be aware of:
1. Sorry, but it's iPhone ONLY!
2. There is, of course, still a method involved, and like any method, it will be more deceptive the more carefully you think about your presentation and the subtleties you use. However, we give you a TON of those.
3. When you first set it up you might be intimidated by how technical it seems—however, we want to make it clear that Pathfinder does NOT require technical expertise or advanced tech skills to use. Pathfinder IS very technical, but all the hard work and programming has already been done—and all you need to do is ‘plug and play.’
4. Pathfinder works on your phone, not the spectator’s phone. This is, to our minds, pretty much the only downside of the trick. (However, we share how we justify using our phone in a natural and motivated way.)
5. The acrostic reveal currently only works in English, however, it works in French, German, Spanish, Danish and Italian for the direct reveal. (We're also happy to add more languages - so just reach out!)
Honestly, we think there are very few drawbacks to this tool.
