Before Steven was a card counter doing YouTube full-time, he was actually able to enter casinos without a disguise.
- While he was performing for a client they were so excited they ordered a bottle of vodka that cost $1500!
- He met Cooper Hefner (Hugh Hefner's son) who got a very pleasant welcome from the staff!
- Upstairs, people would routinely be winning or losing hundreds of thousands of dollars at any second - and most of them didn’t seem to care much.
- Very rich people would regularly tip large amounts (up to $25,000 for a waitress simply serving them drinks!)
- He was constantly surrounded by celebrities coming in and out of the casino.
All of this of course, to the backdrop of a luxurious casino with beautiful employees and clientele alike.
But the most scandalous thing of all, was this:
People talking about the method for the famous ‘Anniversary Waltz’ routine!
If you haven’t ever seen the Anniversary Waltz performed, it’s a classic piece of card magic often performed for couples and here’s what it looks like.
Two spectators choose a card from the deck and both cards are fairly signed.
The two cards are then placed back to back on the table - the performer displays the cards extensively before placing them on the table, so the spectator is aware everything is normal.
Then a spectator lowers their hand onto the cards.
The magician asks them if they feel anything - to which they usually respond yes!
After the spectator removes their hand the two cards are fused together into one card!
The new card is totally examinable - they can even keep it as a souvenir.
Steven loves this effect and would ALWAYS perform it if he was doing something for two people, or for a couple.
However, after months of overhearing scandalous conversations where some spectators were able to reverse-engineer my method, he knew something had to change.
He started making some minor method tweaks and then asked spectators at the end of the routine if they had any ideas as to how the effect was done.
From there, he made more changes, particularly in the presentation, that really lowered the number of correct guesses.
And then one day, he had an idea that completely changed the effect.
When he implemented this bulletproof method, the scandalous conversations completely dried up and people were totally floored.
His method for the famous Anniversary Waltz effect is dubbed ‘Fusion’, and here are a few key features:
- Completely bulletproof, he's performed this hundreds of times (never has my method been ousted - which made quite the change!)
- You can have the first card signed and perform a few routines with it before you even perform Fusion. (This would not be possible with most anniversary waltz handling)
- Uses a ‘thumb cap method’ which makes an incredibly key part of the effect completely invisible to the spectator.
- He makes sure that the spectator knows this is REAL INK, something that doesn’t seem important but actually makes a world of difference to their perceptions.
- He incorporated a very clean display that makes the ending disgustingly impactful.
- You'll need a couple of things for Fusion, but most magicians will already own these.
- The spectators are always left with a souvenir (and this time it reveals nothing about how the trick was done, even if they tear it in two!)
This routine is ridiculously clean and always gets good reactions.
Steven's performed it for all types of audiences and people always remember it and they never know how it’s done.
